APPLICATION GUIDE
PROCEDURE FOR THE IMPLANTATION OF THE 4.3 AND 7.0 MM HCS SCREWS IS IDENTICAL.
BUT NOTICE THE DIFFERENT DIMENSIONS OF THE INSTRUMENTS.
The HCS drill is provided with a scale that allows you to re-check the measured length directly on the
drill (Fig. I). If, as recommended, you inserted the drill just short of the end of the guidewire (Fig. J), there
may be small differences between the measured length using the gage and the scale on the drill. For
intermediate sizes you should always use the shorter measurement to select the screw. Especially if you
are already close to a joint surface with the guidewire!
After drilling and measuring, you also can ream the anterior cortex to facilitate screwing in the head
thread. First, remove the drill sleeve from the tissue protection sleeve (Fig. K). Clamp the countersink of
a cannulated drill to an also cannulated 3 jaw chuck. Guide the countersink over the guidewire onto the
cortex (Fig. L) and turn to clockwise to expand the cortical hole.
Connect the screwdriver shaft with the screwdriver handle. Place the screw on the screwdriver shaft (Fig.
M). Insert the screw together with the screwdriver over the guidewire and turn the screw clockwise into the
bone. Make sure that the tissue protection sleeve rests against the bone. Now screw in the screw until the
marking of the screwdriver has reached the beginning of the tissue protection sleeve (Fig. N). Check the
position of the screw using the image converter and then remove the guidewire.
